A Luxurious Yacht-Inspired Residence in Kowloon, Hong Kong

Spanning a full six meters in height, the soaring ceiling of Lam's Villa is undeniably impressive. Taking cues from luxurious yachts, designer Chiu Chi Ming Danny fully utilizes the ceiling to create the sense of looking up at a cockpit from the deck. This unique feature sets the tone for the entire residence, making it stand out in the concrete jungle of Kowloon.

The living space on the ground floor is undoubtedly the highlight of Lam's Villa. Thanks to the towering ceiling, it leaves a lasting impression on guests upon entering the abode. The double-storey ceiling serves as a narrative element, expressing the overall design theme and adding to the luxurious ambiance of the space.

To enhance the guest experience and create a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces, floor-to-ceiling glass sliding screens are used as partitions. This allows for a coherent flow between the sitting room indoors and the terrace outdoors. The rooftop of Lam's Villa is carefully curated to include a lounge area, bar, and planting zone, providing an ideal space for stargazing and hosting cocktail parties.

The design brief for Lam's Villa was to transform it into a private clubhouse that is fit for entertaining large groups of family and friends. The towering ceiling in the living space evokes a sense of living in a luxurious yacht, while the relaxing color tones, layered lighting effects, and smart home system create a chic contemporary haven. The sitting room and terrace are codependent, offering guests the option to enjoy the indoor or outdoor space during barbecues or cocktail parties.

The interior design of Lam's Villa features a decorative scheme composed of a bronze and grey palette with oak finishing, giving the space a sophisticated charm. Curved designs are incorporated throughout the residence to reflect the dynamic of a yacht and create a casual vibe. The outdoor area, dominated by greyish flooring and greenery, exudes a completely different ambiance compared to the indoor area.

The rooftop of Lam's Villa presented a creative challenge that was overcome with modular furniture and a versatile design. It provides an alternative space for outdoor parties, with a lounge area, a well-equipped bar, and a planting area. The rooftop also offers the best view of the residence, making it a perfect spot for stargazing.

The Lam's Villa project started in August 2018 and was completed in September 2020 in Kowloon Tong, Hong Kong. The design was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2023, recognizing its outstanding and creatively ingenious design that incorporates best practices in art, science, design, and technology.
